William Patterson was born in 1728 in Maryland. He died in 1791 at Shirleysburg, Pennsylvania. William and Jane (Gregory) Patterson moved from Maryland in 1772 to Huntingdon County where they purchased a farm along Aughwick Creek in Shirley Township. They had the following children: John, David, Thomas, William, Mary, Ann & Elizabeth From 1778 - 1783 William served as a Private under Lieutenant Robert Galbraith, The Rangers of the Frontier, ContinentalLine 4th Regiment Bedford County, PA.
